Error Problem Communicating with Server - Moving a team to a different division

Here is a video in which I attempt to move a U-5 team from the U-5 Boys division to the U-5 division. We don't have gender-specific U-5 (we do coed at that age). So I need all the teams in 1 U-5 division. I will then delete the auto-created boys & girls divisions.

As I attempt to move it, I receive the orange error bar at the top of the page stating:

There was a problem communicating with our server. Try refreshing the page.

This error message has been frequent and seems to kind of be a default error that is displayed in many server error scenarios. I almost think that if their web app received (or attempted to perform) an illegal/undefined action, it displays this as a panic type of error message.

In this case, I have confirmed no connectivity issues on my end. Pinging below my internal default gateway (172.20.222.254), Google (8.8.8.8), and the last-hop IP to www.secure-sam.com that actually responds to pings (50.248.118.190)

I also monitor StackSports servers via HTTP (I'm an I.T. guy so I do that stuff for a living). No connectivity issues there either:

So it appears we're just dealing with a bug.

Can you imagine refreshing my web browser page as it recommended every couple of minutes? With a system as inefficient as StackSports is in the first place, the many clicks required to get back to the screen I was at so I can continue the work I was doing add up. I believe during my initial season scheduling with stack sports, I would have spent at least 25% less time creating the schedule if I didn't have to so frequently refresh in response to these errors. And we're not talking about a couple of hours. That 25% equates to over 10 hours. It's a huge issue.

Edit #1:

Continuing to attempt to solve this problem, it turns out that the team did actually get copied to the desired destination division. However I received this same error the very first time I attempted this move, and therefore did not know that it succeeded. All long as I continued trying to move the team to the desired division, it was already a member of that division. Meanwhile I continued receiving a completely useless and misleading error message that did nothing more than waste my time in an endless loop of refreshing the web browser and trying again.

I do not know offhand whether "Move selected to another division / pool" is supposed to actually *move* the team (meaning remove it from the current division/pool), or just add it to the other division/pool.

  • In case of the former, this is not what happened. It added to the other division/pool, but did not remove from the current one.
  • In case of the latter, StackSports should rename the menu item to say *Add* (not *Move*) selected to another division / pool.

Here's a video of me encountering the error while refreshing the page in a continuous loop until I finally take a different angle to solve the problem since this one was just producing a worthless and inaccurate error message:

Edit #2:

After further testing on this, I discovered that the teams were already included in both divisions by default (due to the way the automatic creation of Divisions and Pools works).

So all along when I was trying to move the team to the other division, it was already there. So of course it makes sense that this wouldn't work. What doesn't make sense is the erroneous (misleading) error message it was displaying about not being able to communicate with the server.

And I confirmed that moving to another division does in fact move that team out of the existing division in the process. So that makes sense.
